02/01/2007: "Brainworm"

The Brainworm has been found

brainworm (22k image)
I just took this picture this morning. I've been digging through old greens hoping to find this. Many people have been asking about the brainworm but my mold for it was just worn out. I really wanted to make a few minor alterations before I remolded. So, I needed to make new masters. It's always best working with the greens for this. This has a copyright on the bottom from 1992. I didn't realize it had been that long. Oh well. Now with the green I can get this thing back into productions for all you Steve Lortz fans out there.

The column of tubey looking things doesn't really hold the brain worm up. It uses its vast mental powers to levitate. The tubey things are simply the vestigal remains of the circulatory and nervous systems dangling below the brain.

I paint the dangling tubey things this way: first I paint the whole thing a light yellow ochre, then I give it a wash of brown to bring our the details. Next I paint some of the tubey things bright red and others bright blue to suggest veins and arteries.

I paint the brain itself gray, and then give it a light wash of a rusty red color.

More later,
Steve
